| SPECIAL LABS A. HISTOCHEMISTRY LAB Histochemistry Laboratory: Dillehunt Hall, RM. 5049, Mail Code L471, Telephone 494-5755. Supervisor, Don Anderson, HTL Technologists: Cary Brady and Dornald Myles The Histochemistry Laboratory is a special studies lab. Primarily the lab is responsible for: Immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence, and kidney biopsies. The laboratory also accepts research work on a consignment basis from other departments. Arrangements must be made with the supervisor for any outside work. All requests are submitted on a requisition form. Tissue for plastic embedding must be placed in a separate container of neutral buffered formalin and labeled. All special stain requests are submitted in writing. Tissue for fat stains is kept separate so that a frozen section can be obtained. All immunocytochemistry requests are submitted to the lab director or to the supervisor. A box is available in Surgical Pathology for deposition of requests. Diagnosis can be obtained from paraffin and frozen sections as well as cytospins. Proper handling of the specimen is critical. Please check with the lab for help. For paraffin embedded tissue blocks are preferred over unstained slides. Kidney biopsies are handled in a variety of fixed and unfixed states. The appropriate method for satisfactory results is determined by the tests requested. B. ELECTRON MICROSCOPY LAB Procedure: All non-renal electron microscopy specimens should be sent to the EM lab, accompanied by a request slip, which is available in the Surgical Pathology office. |
