HEALTHCARE AND MEDICAL INSURANCE

The House Officer may participate in one of the group health insurance programs sponsored by the University or its Affiliated Hospitals, and may also elect to participate in other group insurance programs offered through the University or its Affiliated Hospitals. If the House Officer is paid through the State of Oregon payroll system, the University will pay part or all, of the monthly premium of the health insurance, depending on the plan selected by the House Officer. There will be an administrative discount to a maximum of $450.00 of University Hospital charges for maternity services for House Officer or House Officer's spouse if incurred in the institution and not covered by insurance. Ambulatory health care is available at or through the University's Student and House Staff Health Service for House Officers, their spouse and dependent children, and is provided at no charge after insurance coverage. House Officers will be charged and held responsible for all other hospital, clinic, ancillary, and pharmaceutical services not covered by health insurance or Student and House Staff Health Service. See OHSU GME web site for details http://www.ohsu.edu/ohsuedu/academic/som/GME/current-hr.cfm.

Trainees who elect to receive their health care at OHSU Hospitals and Clinics may contact the Anatomic Pathology Manager to request that their name be removed from any samples processed through surgical pathology's grossing lab on a case by case basis. This would effectively shield the trainee from having their sample identified by anyone in the grossing lab, including other trainees. However, due to the functionality of the current Hospital Information System (HIS) patient name and medical record number are merged and restored automatically. Therefore, slides will be delivered directly to faculty for sign out, bypassing resident/fellow review. The AP Manager will make every possible effort to coordinate with appropriate faculty to maintain confidentiality throughout the process.
