Graduation
To graduate, residents must satisfactorily complete all three advancement stages (as described in "Advancement"). In addition, graduation requires satisfactory completion of all required rotations (18 months of structured AP and 18 months of structured CP training). These are listed in the Department of Pathology Resident Handbook. All residents must also complete 12 months of "flexible" pathology training as described in the ABP booklet of information. For residents accepted into the program before 2002, a "credentialing" year must also be completed. This requirement can be satisfied by 12 months of clinical training or 12 months of general or specialized pathology training (see ABP booklet of information). Residents may, of course, elect to transfer to another program. Their graduation letter will state exactly what requirements they have completed and what requirements are yet to be fulfilled. Residents seeking certification in anatomic pathology must complete 50 autopsies (both gross and microscopic examination). |
