Gram Stain:	Gram-Negative Bacilli
Growth Characteristics:	Bacteroides bile esculin agar grows colonies that are >1mm +/- esculin hydrolysis.
Test Profile:	Bile resistant. Catalase variable.
Description:	Anaerobic. Gastrointestinal flora. Causes typical anaerobic infectiosn inluding but not limited to pleuropulmonary infection (pneumonia, abcess, empyema), intra-abdominal infection, female genital tract infection, head and neck infection, soft tissue infection,s bone and joint infections and bite wounds.
