Neurodevelopmental Clinic
The Neurodevelopmental Clinic serves children with a variety of motor-related diagnoses. Examples are cerebral palsy, traumatic brain injury, bracial plexus injury and other chronic neuromuscular disorders. The clinic offers diagnostic and evaluative services for children with functional motor problems. Examples are gross motor delay or muscle weakness, abnormalities of muscle tone and asymmetry of movement. Other diagnoses commonly serviced include abnormality of gait, gross and fine motor delay, and coordination problems.
Recommended services vary according to the child's age, diagnosis and referral concerns. for example, the recommended evaluation team for a pre-school child with motor delays would include developmental pediatrics, occupational therapy, physical therapy and social work.
Expanded or Limited Services
A child with cerebral palsy may require additional services. For example, audiology and speech-language pathology might be requested in addition to the basic service. Conversely, a child may be referred specifically for evaluation by a single discipline such as physical therapy or developmental pediatrics.
