What is the Oregonians Celebrate Wellness Challenge? This May, thousands of men and women across the country will embark on an eight-week physical activity challenge for better health. They will be part of the WOMAN Challenge-that is, Women and girls Out Moving Across the Nation. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Office on Women's Health is coordinating the Challenge to kick off the ninth annual National Women's Health Week (May 11-17, 2008). This free eight week challenge encourages women and girls to walk 10,000 steps or get 30 minutes of moderate exercise every day. The WOMAN Challenge begins on Mother's Day, May 11, the day after Celebrate Wellness VIII, and ends on July 5, 2008. |
How do I join?
It is easy and FREE to join! Go to their website, register and join the Oregonians Celebrate Wellness team online at www.womenshealth.gov/woman or call Angela Weaver, Team Captain of team and she can help you join! If you do not have a computer you can still join the team by contacting Angela Weaver. Angela's number 503-494-1205!
Can I join at Celebrate Wellness conference?
Yes, during the closing at Celebrate Wellness we will have a kick off event to begin the Woman Challenge 2008! All interested attendees will have the opportunity to form teams of 10 people each. We can identify team captains and we hope to have several teams throughout Oregon! Over the next 8 weeks we will compete against each other to see who travels the furthest across one of six different "virtual" routes across America!
Which Team will Win?
Good question! OODH, with the help of other team captains, will keep track of each team's progress. At the end of 8 weeks the winner will be announced and will be recognized on the OODH website and through the newsletter.
