Social Work Fellowship

The Program

We offer a nine-month internship at the Oregon Institute on Disability and Development (OIDD), a University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). The OIDD is part of the Child Development and Rehabilitation Center at Oregon Health and Science University.

Social work interns at CDRC work in interdisciplinary teams with other professionals, assessing children who have special needs. Our clinically trained social workers provide support in the social/emotional aspects of children and their families. We provide family assessments and function as advocates for the parents, assisting them in coping strategies, locating resources, including financial assistance, respite care, counseling programs, support groups and other services. We work with children who have developmental, physical, medical, behavioral, learning and/or emotional issues.

Other disciplines on the evaluation teams can include Pediatrics, Psychology, Speech and Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Audiology, Nutrition and Nursing. We have interns or fellows in each discipline represented in the LEND program. The social work interns will have the opportunity to participate in weekly forum discussions with the other interns. They will also complete a research project related to the area of children or adults with special needs.

Modest stipends are available for our social work interns.
