Chris Gibbons has worked extensively as an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) clinical specialist, educational consultant, policy level project manager, disability advocate and industry representative. His research interests are informed by his clinical practice as he strives to maximize the effectiveness of AAC intervention for people with neurodegenerative disease and identify efficiencies in access to communication technology.
Chris currently works on a variety of grant funded research projects here at OHSU including a study of the effectiveness of AAC for people with dementia and primary progressive aphasia, the development of a brain computer interface to enable independent communication for people with locked-in syndrome, as well as the evaluation of a new AAC-ICF to help guide IEP goals for students using AAC strategies.
The remainder of Chris' time is filled with child rearing, music, soccer, books, running with/after the dog, and finding time for a glass of wine with his spouse.
