Effective Health Care Program
The Effective Health Care Program (EHC) provides healthcare decision makers (consumers, clinicians, policymakers, and other stakeholders) with high quality information about healthcare interventions. The information provided is based on government funded research that compares how well different treatments work for various health conditions. The program is sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) in the federal Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS). Research scientists compare available evidence on health care treatments and technologies as well as doing new research when necessary. Findings resulting from the research are then translated into easy to read summary guides that highlight the main points from the research. The goal of the program is to help people make well-informed health care decisions based on the best available research.
Public participation is encouraged at every phase of the EHC program, from suggesting new research topics to partnering with AHRQ to distribute summary guides. The program maintains an electronic mailing list where members can receive notice of the release of new research reports and guides. Staff at the Center for Evidence-based Policy assist stakeholders in navigating their participation in the EHC.
You can get involved in the EHC program by nominating research topics and accessing research reports and summary guides by visiting the Effective Health Care website at http://effectivehealthcare.ahrq.gov/index.cfm.
