The project components, while always evolving through the governance process, include:
MED Participant Governance and Collaboration
This is a unique opportunity for Medicaid Directors and other key agency staff to collaborate, share ideas, successes, policies, and problem solve in real time. The collaboration involves monthly Governance meetings, monthly Open Forum meetings and two conferences per year.
Clinical Evidence Reports and Research
On specific topic areas of concern to participating organizations. including:
- Immediate Policy/Evidence Consultation, available anytime during Center business hours.
- Participant Inquiries, which are rapid responses to research inquiries for policy makers on any topic
- Evidence Scoping Reports, which provide an assessment of the state of evidence in a broad topic area, and help determine if further research is required.
- Rapid Appraisal Reports, which are evidence-based answers to narrowly focused and well defined questions. These reports may indicate a more comprehensive review is needed.
- Rapid Reviews, which convey evidence-based answers to well-defined questions, with full descriptions of evidence sources upon which answers are based. These may indicate a more comprehensive review is needed.
- Full Systematic Reviews, which are comprehensive reports of existing evidence. These reviews systematically identify, critically appraise and synthesize research from all relevant published and unpublished reports.

Special Projects as Determined by Governance Group
The direction of the MED project is determined by the participants who have the resources and flexibility to commission special projects on particular topics of interest. For example, in 2006, the group selected Durable Medical Equipment as a particular area of high priority for the MED participants.
