OLAW Communications

Here are the OLAW communications that were requested by PETA.
PETA had requested all correspondence between OLAW, The National Institute of Health's Office of Laboratory Animal Welfare and the Oregon National Primate Research Center between 2001 and 2007.

What are they?
On a rare occasion, a negative event occurs resulting in the death of an animal. In this case, an infant and mother were unfortunately lost due to a decision on the timing of a cesarean section. OHSU took this issue very seriously and reported it to the federal government. OHSU also made significant changes to the way it treats these cases. In addition, the employee involved was removed from the study and underwent many months of additional training.

What do they do?
While these records do document an unfortunate incident, they also demonstrate OHSU’s extensive response and the university’s dedication to making adjustments so that a repeat incident does not occur.
