Cherry Blossoms in Prineville

The Oregon Office of Rural Health is charged with administering several programs for qualifying providers state-wide. These programs range from Recruitment and Retention of health-care providers to the administration of Tax Credits. Brief descriptions of each program can be found below. Emergency Medical Services

The Oregon Office of Rural Health supports Oregon's rural EMS agencies in meeting their mission and the needs of their communities. As part of the mission of the Flex Program our office is dedicated to helping rural communities improve their access to quality Emergency Medical Services.

Loan Repayment

The Oregon Office of Rural Health does not directly administer any of the loan repayment programs. However, loan repayment resources can be found on our Loan Repayment page.

Medical Malpractice Reinsurance Program

In an effort to provide relief to rural physicians and nurse practitioners from rapidly escalating malpractice coverage costs, Oregon’s Legislature passed HB 3630 in 2003 and SB 183 in 2007. The Medical Malpractice Reinsurance Program, jointly administered by the State Accident Insurance Fund (SAIF) and the Oregon Office of Rural Health (ORH), set up a mechanism to pay a portion of professional liability insurance premiums for qualifying practitioners.

PRACTICE OPPORTUNITIES & RECRUITMENT SERVICES

The Oregon Office of Rural Health Recruitment Service currently assists rural communities to recruit primary health and specialty providers.     We are transitioning to a process where all practice opportunities will be posted on the national Rural Recruitment and Retention Network website – www.3RNet.org – with full information available for your review, direct facility contact information included.  At this time, there may be additional opportunities in Oregon not yet posted to this site and we encourage you to contact Jo Johnson, at johnsjo@ohsu.edu or 866-674-4376 for additional potential opportunities.

If you would like one-on-one assistance with your search prior to connecting with a facility, please do not hesitate to contact Jo via e-mail or telephone.  She is available to help you select an appropriate practice and community fit.

Provider Tax Credits

Oregon's Legislature passed SB 438 in 1989, creating the Rural Practitioner Tax Credit (up to $5,000 per year) and SB 31 in 2005, creating the Volunteer EMT Tax Credit (up to $250 per year). The Oregon Office of Rural Health is charged with administering both.
