News and Publications coordinates all media contacts for the university, offers a variety of services to help facilitate communication between OHSU and the community, and coordinates institutional messages.

OHSU's employees, patients, students and programs attract wide media and public interest. NP receives calls daily from reporters seeking information for stories, experts to interview and ideas for articles. Media Relations staff, in turn, provide the media with news and information about OHSU's contributions, achievements, opportunities and challenges.

NP also responds to media requests about patients in cooperation with the hospital's admitting staff. OHSU complies with the Oregon Code of Cooperation published by the Oregon Association of Hospitals and Health Systems, regarding media interaction and patient care activities. NP carefully balances the patient's right to privacy with the public's right to receive information.
