Research Pathways and Human Investigations Program
The Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship offers both a Clinical Investigation Pathway and Basic Science Pathway.
Clinical Research Pathway is designed to train fellows for an academic career in hematology/oncology clinical investigation. Fellows will participate in designing and writing a clinical trial protocol. They participate in all aspects of trial design, IRB submission, patient accrual and enrollment, and follow-up.
Fellows are also required to participate in HIP.
The Human Investigations Program (HIP) at OHSU, a curriculum resulting in a
or degree, is designed to meet the growing need for clinical investigators. With increased knowledge of the basic science of disease, well-trained clinical scientists can translate these concepts from the bench to the bedside and to the community. HIP at OHSU is supported by a K30 training grant from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and is sponsored by the School of Medicine, the Portland Veterans Affairs Medical Center and by divisions and departments at OHSU.
Basic Science Pathway is designed to train scientists for academic careers in hematology/oncology basic science and translational research. Fellows and mentors outline a proposal for a specific project with a final goal of writing and submitting a grant (NRSA or K08). A curriculum of research conferences, journal clubs, and appropriate HIP courses is strongly encouraged.
