Biography/Summary

James Gajewski, M.D., professor, is a nationally-renowned blood and marrow transplanter, his current research focus is mismatched transplants, support issues for transplants, and the impact of health care finances on transplant outcome.  A graduate of University of Notre Dame with an A.B. in Government, he completed his medical degree at Temple University and his residency at the University of Cincinnati. His fellowship was at the University of California, Los Angeles, where he did some of the very first transplants for the National Marrow Donor Program. He then moved to the University of Texas, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, where he was co-medical director of the hematologic malignancies center as well as deputy chair of blood and marrow transplantation.  At M.D. Anderson, his research focused both on HLA predictors for outcomes under the donor transplants, as well as novel methods of T-cell depletion to prevent graft versus host disease.
