Acute Leukemia Programs
The Acute Leukemia program at the OHSU Center for Hematologic Malignancies has been developed to offer you a comprehensive analysis of your disease as well as provide you comprehensive, multi-disciplinary treatment options for its management, both in the short-term and in the long-term. This is a disease that still requires integration with blood and marrow transplantation and you will be evaluated for the most current clinical treatment options to best treat your disease. This disease is often very aggressive and typically is found in elderly individuals, although many patients present with leukemia at a young age. Over the past 10 years, there have been multiple advances in the treatment of acute leukemia, which has led to our ability to offer a clinical cure for disease, something that was not even considered 20 years ago. Our team is very involved in clinical research of leukemia as well defining its molecular nature with the hope that this will allow us to translate new therapies in the future. We have multiple clinical trials that are currently open investigating new agents as well as are actively participating in blood and marrow transplantation for long-term control of patients with recurrent disease or those patients with higher risk, newly diagnosed leukemia. Whether your disease is of lymphoid or myeloid origin (ALL or AML), our team of experts is available to provide you the information needed to best understand your disease. In providing you the comprehensive consultation required, we work closely with our collaborators within the Division of Hematopathology as well as with those in Cytogenetics. Various scientists at OHSU are studying the molecular basis of acute leukemia as well as addressing issues of supportive care to best control the side effects of the treatments you will receive.
In summary, the Center for Hematologic Malignancies Acute Leukemia Clinic, we will work closely with you to provide you the understanding of this disease and will work aggressively to provide you the most up-to-date therapies for you to gain control, and ultimately cure your disease.
