Professional Liability Claims Manager

Description
Under the general supervision of the Director of Risk Management, this position is responsible for managing enterprise-wide claims processes related to professional liability, and other lines of coverage as appropriate. Managing to conclusion all reported and outstanding claims, potential claims and lawsuits in all clinical and research areas of operation. Analyze each newly reported claim to determine if it should be handled directly, assigned to outside counsel, reported to insurance company, or transferred to another entity. Determine if claim should be settled or litigated under the direction of the Director. Prepare and present claims operational information to staff, senior management, legal counsel, insurance underwriters, and representatives. Communicate effectively with attorneys and claimants. Coach, lead, and develop claim staff and participate in the development of claims training; coordinate activities with Risk Claims Examiner; make recommendations on claims policy and procedures; review; keep current on state/territory regulations and issues, industry activity and trends; evaluate and analyze claims data in Risk Management Information System. Duties are performed with the objective of controlling, minimizing, and preventing losses in an effort to protect the assets of the entire OHSU system.(UPAR877010111, 877010116; 037500, 037020)

Qualifications
Requires: Licensed Oregon Adjuster; CPHRM; BA in Business Administration or finance from an accredited college or university; at least ten years of professional experience in insurance/claims/risk management field, preferably with a combination of experience related to claims management and work in healthcare field; five years of claims adjusting or management experience; proficient in using Microsoft Office products, MS Access, and database tools. Familiarity with insurance, medical and legal terminology at sufficient level to analyze claims and litigated matters. Claims processing and management procedures. Claims investigation, analysis and reserving processes. Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary. Review and address large number of claims and documents and forms under time constraints. Compile and prepare reports, correspondence and financial analysis tools. Operate standard office equipment including computers and related software applications. Skilled in budget preparation and management; knowledge of cost analysis techniques preferred. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing. Prefer: MS, MBA, or JD degree; diploma or certification in Risk Management; five years of healthcare risk management experience.
