Microsoft Migration: Spring 2008
The Microsoft migration has three parts: upgrading to Office 2007, moving email accounts from GroupWise to Outlook 2007, and moving from a mixed Novell-Microsoft network to an all-Microsoft network.
When is your email account migrating?
To find out, check the email migration schedule. After the migration, if you are unable to locate some of your archived files, you can fill the missing archives form and we'll help you locate them. We can also help you configure your handheld devices to work with the new platform.
The email migration presents some technical challenges:
- For the transition to go smoothly, you'll need to document your GroupWise settings.
- GroupWise archives need to be cleaned up - safeguard your GroupWise archives.
Migration overview
There are three phases in this migration.
1. Upgrade to Microsoft Office 2007
On March 3, OHSU began upgrading to Microsoft Office 2007. Since the email migration will be a big move all by itself, we're migrating to Office 2007 in two steps: First we'll install the Big Four - Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint - along with a set of bonus applications, and then we'll install the email application, Outlook 2007. Learn more about the Big Four.
2. Migrate share file storage from Novell to Microsoft
Your home directory (H: drive) will stay the same, but network drives will change slightly. I, J, and other shared drives will be combined into a single drive, called X. Learn more.
3. Migrate from GroupWise to Microsoft Outlook 2007
Outlook 2007 will allow for better integration with other Office 2007 applications, but the move presents some technical challenges:
- For the transition to go smoothly, you’ll need to document your GroupWise settings.
- GroupWise archives need to be cleaned up – safeguard your GroupWise archives.
