Student Checklist

(Students outside the regional program please see Note below.)

Threee weeks before your clinical experience:

  • OHSU requires that all students pass a drug screening test before arriving on campus. Check with your school for instructions. Passing results should be on record at the school or in the student passport.
  • Your faculty will register you for the necessary Epic training classes based on your clinical placement. Ensure your Epic classes are scheduled to be done before you start your clinical assignment.

Two weeks before your clinical placement

  • Check in with Parking for instructions on where to buy your pass and where to park. Parking on the Hill is limited and closely monitored. DO NOT park in visitor parking areas - the fine is high!
  • Become familiar with the OHSU Emergency Codes.
  • Turn in the following completed form to your faculty 
  • Access & ID Card form - Faculty must sign the Access and ID card form with the name of the school in the spot marked department and the faculty’s signature in the spot for Nurse Manager
  • Complete both the OHSU HIPAA and Respect at OHSU online modules (you will need headphones or speakers). To access HIPAA online module from remote workstation you may click on the link or go to: https://www.ohsu.edu/bigbrain/
    • Click on the green text: "register here
    • Follow the directions for Visiting Student or Intern.
    • Login name: your last name and first initial
    • Click on Register. You will go back to the screen where it asked you to "register here" in green text. Enter your newly created username and password and follow the directions.
    • Print the certificates as you will need them to obtain your ID badge.
  • Get a signed background and drug history certification letter from your faculty. It must be printed on your institution's letterhead.
  • If you are going to be doing glucose monitoring complete the module/test and then register for a 30-minute glucometer class. Click here to begin the module. Click here to register for the glucometer class. You will need to click on Create New Account if you have not used TrainingForce before.
  • Ensure your regional nursing network clinical passport is current. You must bring it with you when you are on the unit.
On or before the first day of clinical experience:
  • Go to the OHSU Parking Office to obtain your ID badge. The office is located at 3310 SW Veterans Hospital Road. Bring with you:
  • Signed Background/Drug History Certificate
  • HIPAA and Respect at the University Certificates of Completion
  • Access & ID Card form
  • $15.00 to pay for the card
  • To access Epic on the unit students must log in and then log out of Novell. When you log in a second time you will have access to Epic. If you have completed the necessary training.
  • Cohort students must bring the Nursing Student Daily Goal form filled out each time they are on the clinical site. This form lists the daily or weekly goal(s) for the individual student and must be shared with the preceptor.
