Modeling and Role-Modeling
Nursing at OHSU revolves around a professional practice model according to modeling and role-modeling nursing theory.
Modeling is a process used by the nurse to develop an image and understanding of the patient's world as the patient sees it. The nurse then uses this understanding to facilitate and nurture the individual, family or community in attaining, maintaining or promoting health through purposeful interventions (Role-modeling).
The aims of interventions within the modeling and role-modeling framework include:
- Building trust
- Promoting patient control
- Affirming and promoting patient's strengths
- Promoting positive orientation
- Setting mutual goals that are health directed
