OHSU Budget Update (updated 4.12.05)

Co-Chairs Budget Released April 4, 2005 (.pdf)

OHSU Public Testimony Scheduled

On December 1, 2004, the Governor's Recommended Budget (GRB) proposed a funding level for OHSU operations of $53.0 M. for the biennium. This is a $32.8 M. decrease of state funding from the FY 03-05 biennium. Included in the General Fund recommendation for OHSU is a $2.7 M. appropriation to continue operation of the Oregon Poison Center at current levels. Also included in the Governor's Recommended Budget is funding for the debt service on the Oregon Opportunity bonds approved by the Legislature in 2001.

The Governor's Recommended Budget is now before the state legislature, where Oregon's Senators and Representatives will have an opportunity to review the budget and make their own recommendations.

OHSU's general fund budget bill, SB 5522 was printed on Jan. 13th, 2005. SB 5522 is the legislative vehicle that contains the proposed budget for OHSU's Child Development and Rehabilitation Clinic (CDRC), the Area Health Education Centers (AHEC), the Office of Rural Health, the Schools of Nursing, Dentistry and Medicine and the indigent care subsidy for OHSU hospital.

OHSU testified in Phase I hearings on SB 5522 in front of the Ways and Means Education Subcommittee on Feb. 23 and 24. (View complete Ways & Means schedule) Phase II hearings are scheduled for April 19, 20 and 21. Public testimony is scheduled for two hours on April 19th at 8:30 AM. After the Phase II hearings, OHSU's budget will be sent to the Full Ways and Means Committee. The House and Senate Co-Chairs presented their DRAFT budget recommendations on April 4, 2005.
