These activities are designed for the academic enrichment of the students, residents, fellow and faculty. Fellows are expected to attend all conferences related to upper extremity and to participate in the syllabus directed Hand Surgery course of study.
Didactic sessions are conducted by the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery on Monday mornings. The two-hour block includes Grand Rounds, often given by a visiting professor, and a presentation on a core plastic surgical topic is given by one of the Faculty or Residents. A preoperative conference is held, in which the residents and fellow present all of the scheduled operative cases for the upcoming week along with their plans and surgical options.
The weekly Hand Conference is held on Thursday mornings. These presentations are given by hand faculty, the fellow or plastics surgery residents and are chosen to provide a solid didactic foundation in hand surgery.
The division will sponsor the hand fellow to attend one national meeting as well as support additional trips if the fellow is presenting investigations conducted at OHSU.
