About our Residency
The General Surgery Residency at OHSU provides training in all areas of general surgery that lead to careers in private practice, academic surgery or further specialization in surgery. Broad experience in clinical surgery is combined with surgical skills training and numerous teaching conferences to provide trainees with diversified experiences. Research is an option between the clinical third and fourth years of residency. Seven major hospitals in the Portland area and one in Grants Pass (Southern Oregon) participate in the residency.
OHSU offers the only General Surgery Residency in Oregon. Portland is the largest city in Oregon and provides quick access to the Pacific Ocean, Mt. Hood and the Willamette Valley. In their off hours, our residents enjoy hiking, mountain biking, skiing, surfing, rock climbing and fishing. Oregon is an ecologically-minded state that values conservation and encourages a "green" outlook on life. Many residents bike to work. The links below expand on different aspects of the residency.
