Farewll Celebration for Ms. Julie Rettinghouse
Julie Rettinghouse was given a special farewell luncheon to honor her three decade long association with our Department. Opening of a 14,000 square foot state of the art facility after spending close to 3 decades on 4C. With her exceptional attention to detail, she was instrumental in the design and opening of the Kohler Pavilion 4th floor department and always, always reminding all of us that the patients are why we are here.
Julie was one of the first radiation therapy technology students at OHSU graduating from the class of 1977. For 27 years, she has orchestrated the recruitment and retention of one of the finest Radiation Medicine staffs in the region. It was Julie’s reputation that often attracted many hard to recruit candidates and she has ensured the expansion of nursing services to our patients and their families.
One of Julie’s most amazing assets is the ability to be a conduit for the flow of information to and from other departments. She could connect our department to different hospital and clinic departments, vendors, and she kept us JACHO compliant. She made it her job to make department staff member’s jobs easier, so that they could focus on patient care. Julie has adapted to the many changes in her role and believes that good patient care is the best reward of all.
Along with the years of technology upgrades, one of Julie’s most memorable moments at OHSU was flood and damage control. During the 2007 department flood, Julie set up a temporary clinic that was up and running in less than 2 days and had the machines treating patients within 24 hours. She helped clean, sort, and run interference on so many levels, so that the rest of her staff could provide the excellent patient service that our patients had come to expect from us. Julie problem solved issues that came up, even though her office was heavily damaged, and helped us restock, clean and move back to 4C, while we waited for our new department to be finished. She gave of her time in the evenings and on weekends too to make things happen.
