Program for Emerging Radiotherapy Technologies (PERT) at OHSU

Department chair, Dr. CR Thomas, Jr., has announced formation of the intra-departmental Program for Emerging Radiotherapy Technologies (PERT). The co-directors of PERT are Warren D. D'Souza, PhD and Martin Fuss, MD, PhD. Dr. Fuss is Professor and Director of the Program in Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). He is the co-PI of an NIH R01 grant. Dr. D'Souza, the PI on an NIH-funded R01 grant, has recently been appointed as Director of the Division of Medical Physics within the Department.

According to Dr. Thomas, "PERT will be focused on high quality state of the art technology-driven patient care as well as research. Furthermore, PERT facilitate close interaction with academic clinicians and scientists, whether intramural (including investigators within the OHSU Cancer Institute, Oregon Graduate Institute, and Oregon Clinical and Translational Research Institute, for example). Partnership with industry, such as our relationships with Varian Medical Systems, Philips Medical Systems, Imaging 3, Calypso Medical Systems, Wacom Co, Ltd., Transpire, Inc., will be further developed. The intermediate and long-term goals are to develop fundable grant proposals, research papers, and patents will be generated during this process. By doing so, it is expected OHSU will become an international leader in the rapidly evolving arena of applied emerging technology in radiation medicine.
