PET-CT scanner was delivered to Department in August 2007

Drs. Thomas and Fuss are shown below next to the GEMINI TF (Time-of-Flight) PET-CT scanner, that was recently installed in the Department, in partnership with the department of diagnostic radiology. Mr. Erwin Schwarz was instrumental in facilitating this healthy inter-departmental partnership, which further enhances the Department's commitment to a dedicated image guidance platform. The new GEMINI TF with TruFlight technology is setting a new benchmark in spatial resolution and sensitivity. GEMINI TF is capable of extracting the true benefits of time of flight technology by improving image quality, lesion detectability and patient throughput. The increased sensitivity and reduced image noise in GEMINI TF is also opening the pathway to molecular imaging applications.

TruFlight technology measures the actual time difference between the detection of two coincident gamma rays . This time difference is then used to more accurately localize the origin of the annihilation. Improved event localization reduces noise in image data resulting in higher image quality, shorter imaging times or lower dose to the patient.

Other features of this unit include:

1) low dose imaging, and advanced applications
2) Base TruFlight PET architecture - Field upgradeable to full TruFlight performance and time-of-flight PET imaging
3) High resolution for lesion detectability and exceptional anatomic detail
4) PET-CT viewer for EBW - Simple, fast and personalized workflow for processing oncology, cardiac and neuro studies
5) Extended Brilliance Workspace - Giving you the ability to process multi-modality data sets at one workstation
6) Dual Monitor Configuration - Enhancing your ability to display multiple data sets
7) 430GB internal disc for data storage
8) 4 GB RAM - Enabling high-speed processing of large datasets.
