Medical Student Clerkship (Elective Rotation)
Thank you for your interest in our department and in the medical student clerkship program. All Clerkship applications (MD and DO) are processed by the Education & Student Affairs Office. Their website has information about the visiting student program and how to apply.
Description
The clinical clerkship in Radiation Medicine is an opportunity to learn the principles of oncology, focusing on how to care for patients who are being treated with radiation from the initial consultation to treatment planning to management of side effects. Students will be expected to be proficient in evidence-based medicine, statistics, and direct patient care.
**Starting with the 2008-2009 academic year, all applications will be electronic.**
Applications will be accepted according to the schedule (see website for schedule) created by the Education & Student Affairs Office. (http://www.ohsu.edu/ohsuedu/academic/som/MD/visiting.cfm)
MD: Visiting student applications are only accepted from students in good standing who are receiving an M.D. from a
Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME) accredited institution. Students from LCME accredited medical schools must apply using the AAMC's Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS). Paper applications will not be accepted.
DO: Visiting Osteopathic Medical Student applications are only accepted from students in good standing who are receiving a D.O. degree from a school which is accredited by the Education Department of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
OHSU requires a criminal background check on all visiting students. Students will not be allowed to begin a rotation until the criminal background check has been completed. If your application is accepted. Here's the website address: http://www.ohsu.edu/ohsuedu/academic/som/MD/visiting.cfm
*OHSU implemented a new background procedure as of the 2011-12 academic year and which affects our visiting medical student process. OHSU no longer does the background checks. Thus, it is the responsibility of the Visiting MS to do one of the following.
1. Have their school send a signed letter stating that a background has been done on the student.
2. The student needs to contact www.mybackgroundcheck.com and pay ($50) to have one done. After completed, their advisor needs to read the results and send a
letter stating that the background check is clear.
Ms. Browning (503-418-2211) can help with questions.
Again, thank you for inquiring about our program; I look forward to receiving your application and meeting you.
