Project:
My first project this summer focuses on intrafractional prostate motion as it relates to breathing. Whereas other studies have examined global prostate motion in the time frame of one fraction of radiation therapy, my work concentrates on a possibly sinusoidal pattern of movement that occurs in the frequency range of human breathing. Using data provided by the Calypso tracking system, I have been working to prove that this motion of the prostate is, indeed, a result of breathing-related movement. In a related effort, my project also aims to reliably identify patient-specific magnitudes of this high-frequency movement by analyzing the same motion-tracking data. In the future, this study will expand to collect simultaneous lung movement data that will be used to further prove the effects of breathing on prostate motion.
