Interest and Accomplishments:
Mara Rosenberg is a rising senior and physics major in the Martin A. Fisher School of Physics at Brandeis University where she is the recipient of the Trustee Scholarship. She also studies Spanish and spent the past spring semester improving her language skills while in Granada, Spain. An avid horseback rider, Mara is the vice president of the Brandeis Equestrian Team and also participates in equestrian vaulting (competitive gymnastics on horseback). After discovering the career opportunities in the health-physics field, Mara is aspiring to become either a radiation oncologist or medical physicist.
Mara began her association with OHSU during high school when she participated in the Partnership for Scientific Inquiry Class and then assisted Dr. Judy Cameron at the Oregon National Primate Research Center with an investigation of the relationship between stress, alcoholism, and violence.
Last summer Mara was selected to participate in the Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology (DMICE) Summer Research Program at OHSU with placement in the bioengineering department. Under the guidance of Dr. Ruikang Wang and Dr. Eilis Boudreau, she conducted research on alcoholism by studying the effect of alcohol on cerebral blood flow using the optical imaging technology of doppler optical microangiography (DOMAG).
This summer Mara has had the opportunity to return to OHSU through the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Undergraduate Summer Fellowship. She will work with Dr. James Tanyi to quantify the significance of the contribution to contralateral lung dose from partial vs. full beam/arc arrangements for SBRT for lung cancer. She will also research the susceptibility of dose distributions from motion/setup errors from partial vs. full beam/arc arrangements.
