Interest and Accomplishments:
Kelly is a junior at Oregon Episcopal School. Kelly was selected as a 2011 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) finalist at the Northwest Science Expo (NWSE) for her project entitled: "Evaluation of Margining Algorithms in Treatment Planning Systems for Tumor Volumes Typical in Stereotactic Body Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery." At the NWSE she received four-year scholarships to the University of Oregon, Oregon State University and Lewis and Clark for her outstanding science research project. She also received a first place award in the highly competitive Medicine and Health category at the 2011 Aardvark Science Expo and won the US Air Force Outstanding Project Award at this Fair.
In 2010, Kelly also received a first place award at the Aardvark Science Expo in the Environmental Science category for her work entitled: "Variation in Chemical, Physical and Biological Attributes of Streams in Developed Versus Undeveloped Watersheds."
Kelly also was selected for OHSU's Partnership for Scientific Inquiry program in 2010 and completed a research proposal entitled: "Which of the two immobilization systems: the BodyFix or the Abdominal Compression Plate, is the more effective at controlling tumor motion during liver cancer radiotherapy?"
She is currently enrolled (while attending high school) as a student at Portland State University in the Natural Science Inquiry (NSI) class.
In addition to her scientific interests, Kelly was selected as a member of the Oregon All-State Choir (Soprano I) (2009) and was chosen by the National Association for Music Education (MENC) as a Soprano I to perform at The Kennedy Center as part of the highly acclaimed 75 member National High School Honor Choir (2010). Kelly has performed in several high school musicals and has been playing the cello and piano since second grade.
While maintaining a vigorous academic course load, Kelly participated as a committee Chair for Model United Nations (2011) and is a recent recipient of the National Charity League "Merci Award" for her volunteer hours (the most of any high school student in the organization) working with the Children's Cancer Association, Make-A-Wish Foundation, the teen Streetlight Shelter and Race for the Cure. Kelly has been selected to serve on the Leadership Council for the National Charity League in 2011-12.
