Project:
This 2010 summer project has been to develop an application with a user interface to write erroneous positions of MLC leaves in DICOM files for IMRT and Varian RapidArc treatment plans. The goal of this project is to simulate real world mechanical inaccuracies during treatment by treating altered plans, and determining whether errors are detectable by the QA system, or affect the delivered dose distribution significantly. For example, the software will allow the user to open a leaf by 5 mm, limit the speed of leaves at a certain rate, simulate the effect of a lagging gantry, or lower leaves certain gantry angles to simulate gravitational effects in a Varian RapidArc treatment. This software also has potential to aid service engineers in diagnosing the LINAC machines.
