Specialty: Radiation Oncology

Dr. Hoffelt is board certified in Radiation Oncology. Following his undergraduate work at M.I.T. with degree in mechanical engineering, he graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and completed residency at Oregon Health and Science University.

Most recently, Dr. Hoffelt was on staff at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, one of the first and most active Cyberknife Centers in the country. Dr. Hoffelt has treated over 200 cases with this emerging technology, and most recently presented Sinai's experience in treating carcinoma of the pancreas at a national meeting. He will continue his work at Southwest Washington Medical Center as they open the only Cyberknife Center in the Portland area. The Cyberknife is an innovative technology capable of delivering highly accurate and conformal radiation treatments without the use of a frame for immobilization. This technique, called "stereotactic radiosurgery," has been used for decades to treat benign and malignant conditions in the brain and spine. The Cyberknife can use this technique to treat tumors at any body site, including skull base, lung, liver, pancreas, prostate, bladder, cervix, and uterus.

In addition to stereotactic radiosurgery, Dr. Hoffelt has experience with lung, prostate, gynecological cancers, and has published regarding these topics. He is also experienced in IMRT, prostate brachytherapy, breast brachytherapy, HDR and LDR brachytherapy, and intracavitary coronary artery brachytherapy.
