PMCB Admission

Application opening date: September 1st, 2007

Application deadline: December 14, 2007.

Applications for Ph.D. study are accepted only for Fall admission. Applications will be received from September 1 through December 14. Early application is strongly recommended. Instructions for applying and the online application are available on the Office of Graduate Studies website. Please submit applications online and send transcripts and the application signature form to the School of Medicine Office of Graduate Admissions, L102.

It is recommended that applicants complete the following prerequisite course work: General Biology, General Chemistry, Physics, Genetics, Organic Chemistry, and Calculus

A complete application consists of:

  • The completed application form
  • The application signature page
  • Official undergraduate transcripts GRE scores (general test) OHSU Program Code = 4865 (no department code)
  • A personal statement
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Electronic copies of any relevant publications
  • international students whose native language is not English must submit TOEFL scores. OHSU Program Code = 4865 (no department code)


Applications will be reviewed when all materials have been received. In reviewing candidates, the admissions committee evaluates a number of factors including undergraduate academic record, research experience and GRE scores. Letters of reference from individuals who can address the applicant's potential for research and graduate studies play an important role in the admission process. Request recommendations from persons who have a thorough knowledge of your background and qualifications. The applicant's personal statement is also important and care should be used in preparing the statement. A discussion of research experience and scientific interests is recommended.

Selected applicants will be invited to OHSU for an interview during the months of February or March. The interview involves meetings with faculty and current graduate students and provides an opportunity to learn about the program, the OHSU campus and Portland. Interviews for 2008 are by invitation of the admissions committee and are scheduled for January 30 to February 2, February 13 to February 16, and February 27 to March 1.
