PMCB Retreat
The PMCB Retreat is held annually in September so that it can serve as an opportunity for orientation of incoming students, as well as a forum for research and a good opportunity for socializing. Activities include faculty talks, an afternoon poster session, mentor speed dating, and a student awards presentation. Topics for the talks include emerging research areas, strategies for successful graduate students, how to choose a mentor, how to choose a post-doc position, and careers in science. All PMCB faculty are invited to attend the retreat together with their pre- and postdoctoral trainees. This is an informal retreat, with plenty of opportunity for one-on-one discussion.

Student Research Forum
The Student Research Forum, established more than 10 years ago, is a campus-wide research symposium organized by the Graduate Student Organization. It is an excellent venue for students to give their first research presentations. Graduate students submit abstracts and give short talks or posters regarding their research, which are critiqued by faculty members. A prominent scientist is invited to attend and give a keynote address. In cooperation with the Forum, graduate classes are not held during the two days of the symposium. This symposium is widely attended by students and faculty members and is an outstanding mechanism for promoting cohesion among all graduate students. PMCB plays a prominent role in these symposia.

Graduate Student Organization (GSO)
The GSO represents graduate students from all areas of OHSU. The GSO sponsors academic and social events including the Student Research Forum and an annual ski trip. Visit the GSO website for more information on activities and how to get involved.
