Our goals are to educate medical students about the unique physiology, pathophysiology, social, and health care needs of children and their families. The Department of Pediatrics hopes this will be an enjoyable and educationally valuable experience for all students. We value your experiences and evaluation and feedback is used on an ongoing basis to improve our clerkships.

Doernbecher Call Schedules

You will be required to take overnight call during your pediatric clerkship.   For further details about overnight call, please see the Doernbecher page.

Student Call Requirements Doernbecher:

During your ward team weeks, you will take overnight call approximately once every 5 nights.   During your specialty weeks, there will be no requirement for overnight call.

Call schedules are extremely difficult to put together. Considerations may be given to students who notify Dr. Bumsted or Trevor Monteith about needing a night or weekend off before the call schedule is created, so notify right away. Otherwise, outside of very exceptional circumstances (not a husband's birthday party or a friend's baby shower) or illness, changes to the call schedule will not be permitted.

Your printed Orientation Manual will have important additional information.
