This experience gives students a concentrated view of general and subspecialty inpatient pediatrics with an in-depth exposure to members of the inpatient team. The student will gain experience in history taking, physical exam skills, and patient presentations; general clinical plans and orders; clinical assessment skills; managing patients; arranging diagnostic studies; discharge planning; common pediatric procedures; and communicating with pediatric consultants and community primary care providers. Call is Q4 taken with senior resident and intern. Students will pre-round on their own patients daily, present patients and offer plan suggestions at daily rounds, attend daily morning report and noon conferences, and provide at least one 15-minute teaching conference for the team. Student can expect a formal feedback session with the current ward attending or the senior resident mid-way through the rotation. Students will receive written evaluations from the attending and senior resident with input from interns and other team members. Students will be placed either on the Hood Team where they will work with the OHSU team or the Coast Team where they will be working with the Kaiser Permanente Team.
