MSTC Pediatrics 2

Pediatrics 2 should build on and expand the knowledge and skills that were acquired in the third year. The major shift in emphasis will be to the outpatient setting, with its undiagnosed problems, quicker pace, common and mild problems and emphasis on prevention and well-child care. The rotation has been designed to have several options in order to fit the individual career goals and objectives of each student.

Goals

To continue to acquire knowledge of the physiological and psychological

changes in the developing child, and how these affect the child’s health and manifestation of illness.

To continue to sharpen clinical skills in the care of children.

To understand the child in relationship to the family and community.

To be knowledgeable about health systems and community resources.

To accomplish the above goals in the outpatient setting.

Getting Started

The pediatrics department is committed to making sure each student gets the most valuable educational experience possible out of the Pediatrics 2 rotation. The department wants all students to have a chance to express their preferences before rotation assignments are made.  Students are encouraged to look over the General Pediatrics and Specialty Site links to located on the right side of this page.  Students should keep in mind that many of these rotations will not be available for students.

When students know what there preferences are, they can move on to the Site selection information area.
