Molecular Genetics
This course constitutes an introduction to the molecular genetics of prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Areas discussed are: control of gene expression in prokaryotes; bacteriophage genetics and molecular biology; plasmids and bacteriophages as vectors in genetic engineering; expression vectors and eukaryotic viral vectors; RNA synthesis and processing in eukaryotes; gene control in prokaryotes; DNA synthesis in eukaryotes; and genetics and biology of yeast. Prerequisite: Molecular Basis of Cell Biology I: Biochemistry and consent of instructor.
