Peripheral Nerve Problems

Peripheral nerves lie outside the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system) and extend to organs and limbs. The peripheral nervous system is not protected by bone like the central nervous system, which leaves peripheral nerves exposed to toxins and mechanical injuries. There are many peripheral nerve disorders, such as:

  • Nerve entrapment
    • carpal tunnel syndrome
    • ulnar nerve entrapment (at elbow)
  • Traumatic nerve injury
    • brachial plexus injury
  • Peripheral nerve masses
    • intraneural ganglion cysts
    • neurofibromas
    • schwannomas
  • Disease related peripheral neuropathy, e.g.diabetes or vasculitis
