If the last 50 years have witnessed the most significant advances
in medical history, the discoveries of the next 50 will likely
transform the practice of medicine entirely. What will health
care be like in the future? And how will we prepare tomorrow's
physicians for the world in which they will practice?
In
many ways the future of Oregon's health care will begin on Marquam
Hill - home of Oregon's only school of medicine. Today, however,
economic forces are creating unprecedented pressures. For the
OHSU School of Medicine, the challenge is this: how to serve
a growing patient population, including some of the state's
most vunlerable citizens, while educating medical students and
funding vital research - all in the face of declining patient
revenues and significantly reduced state funding.
To maintain its tradition of excellence in an era of both challenge
and promise, the OHSU School of Medicine is seeking $38 million
to advance capital projects and curriculum development and to
support the school's most vial assets - its students and
faculty.
