Biography

Surendra Dasari, BTech, MS
Doctoral Candidate

Surendra's research interests involve mass spectrometry, computation and protein biology (proteomics). He is interested in discovering biochemical reasons for age-related hardening of the human lens. Relating to this work, he has uncovered several novel protein PTMs in the aging human lens. He is currently involved in quantification of such PTMs and linking their abundance to age-related hardening of the human lens. He is also interested in developing high-throughput biomarker discovery methods involving complex body fluid based proteomics. His methods helped in rapid discovery of novel biomarkers for several pathological conditions such as Downs syndrome, preterm labor, preterm birth, preeclampsia, and diabetes.  He is also interested in the dynamics of proteins present in various human body fluids during pregnancy.  He is also currently working on assessing the dynamics of human serum proteins during pregnancy.

Surendra received a Bachelor of Technology in computer science and engineering from Bapatla engineering college, Bapatla, India and a Master of Science in biomedical informatics from OHSU. Currently he is enrolled in the doctoral program in biomedical informatics at OHSU. He has spent the past five years as a research assistant and research associate in the Center for Biomarker Discovery, Dept. of Pediatrics, OHSU. He was instrumental in developing new algorithms for high-throughput protein posttranslational modification (PTM) and biomarker identification. He is currently working as a staff scientist at Proteogenix.
