Student Government

The OHSU Student Council comprises the student body government with each school contributing members to the council, including Graduate students and Allied Health students. The Student Council serves to maintain the interests of the student population of OHSU, to provide official representation on school designated committees, and to promote the exchange of ideas and information throughout the student body.

Student Organizations and Groups

SNMA and LMSA
OHSU students have formed chapters of both the Student National Medical Association and the Latino Medical Student Association, both supporting medical students of color.

Coalition for Affirmation and Health of Sexual Minorities (CHASM)
Students from the School of Medicine helped to create an inter-school organization to represent the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, questioning and queer individuals who make up the OHSU community.

Graduate Student Organization
The Graduate Student Organization (GSO) is a representative body for graduate students from all areas of OHSU.It is a meeting point for students to partake in inter-departmental activities and provides a venue for an active and fun graduate life.

Global Health Alliance
The GHA is a student group that promotes global health awareness, education and advocacy at OHSU, and facilitates opportunities for students to visit other countries to learn about health care in diverse cultures and settings.

Student Physicians for Social Responsibility at OHSU
The student group of Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility at OHSU seeks to educate and advocate in the student body on issues of environmental health toxins and the achievement of a sustainable environment, dangers of nuclear weapons and health effects of war, and the reduction of violence and its causes.

Office for Student Access

The mission of the Office for Student Access is to help support the University’s mission and value of diversity within OHSU by facilitating and supporting equal access to its programs and services for students who experience a disability. Interested students can register with the OSA to be assigned a Program Accommodation Liaison.

Student Wellness

The Joseph B. Trainer Student Health Service is available to all currently  registered students in degree and certificate training programs who are assessed  the required health fees in addition to their tuition at OHSU. Services are  also available for the spouse or registered domestic partner of an eligible  student. The Health Service provides confidential primary outpatient care and  counseling services.

OHSU also operates a Fitness and Sports Center on the Marquam Hill campus available to students, faculty, staff and community members. The Center offers a variety of classes and equipment, including personal training sessions, a lap pool, squash/raquetball courts, a basketball court, weight and cardio machines  and a spa.

Other Student Resources on Campus

OHSU Bookstore -  Located on the second floor of the Fitness and Sports Center, the OHSU Bookstores are owned and operated by OHSU to provide staff, faculty, students, patients and the OHSU community with medical, dental, nursing and allied health books, materials and equipment.

Outreach Programs

The Student Physicians for Social Responsibility (Student PSR) and the Internal Medicine Interest Group maintain a list of medical and non-medical service opportunities for health students. To download the current list, visit their website.

OHSU is located in Portland, a dynamic, livable city that attracts residents and visitors from around the globe. Portland has big-city activities and culture combined with small-town ease of access and hospitality. Portland offers:
