Masters of Science in Clinical Nutrition - Program Mission & Goals

The Mission of the MS in Clinical Nutrition is to prepare competent Advanced Level Clinical Nutrition Practitioners who demonstrate positive personal and professional characteristics, who choose to practice in the state and region, and who are prepared to function in the ever-changing scientific and professional environment.

Graduate Outcomes For MS in Clinical Nutrition Program:

  • Goal 1 - Offer a Master of Science in Clinical Nutrition for qualified health professionals seeking an advanced degree
    • Outcome Measure:
      90% of applications to the program will be from Registered Dietitians from Oregon
  • Goal 2 - Offer an advanced degree option to OHSU Dietetic Internship graduates
    • Outcome Measure:
      80% of graduate students will be previously enrolled in the Dietetic Internship at OHSU
  • Goal 3 - Offer advanced training in specialty areas of nutrition for health professionals seeking academic careers
    • Outcome Measure:
      80% of graduate students will specialize in diabetes, cardiovascular, weight management, cancer, critical care or pediatric nutrition
  • Goal 4 - Fill the existing gap in Advanced Clinical Nutrition training program for Registered Dietitians in Oregon
    • Outcome Measure:
      90% of applications to the program will be from Registered Dietitians from Oregon
  • Goal 5 - Coordinate teaching and research interests in nutrition at OHSU
    • Outcome Measure:
      60% of graduate students will be supported by stipends through various research projects during the research component of the MS program
      50% of graduate student thesis committees will include members from an array of disciplines and schools within OHSU
  • Goal 6 - Enhance and support research and education in nutrition for physicians, dentists, dietitians and nurses at OHSU
    • Outcome Measure:
      60% of graduates of MS in Clinical Nutrition will find employment in the specialty area of their graduate work
      80% of graduates will be involved in applied or clinical research programs within 5 years of graduation
      50% of graduate student thesis committees will include members from an array of disciplines and schools within OHSU
