Masters of Science in Clinical Nutrition - Faculty & Staff Program Director Diane Stadler, PhD, RD Dr. Stadler received a BS in Genetics and Development from Davidson College, an MS in nutrition science from Virginia Tech, and a PhD in Human Nutrition from the University of Iowa. She has worked with interns at the University of Iowa and directed the graduate programs in Nutrition Science and Coordinated Masters Programs at the University of Utah before joining the faculty at OHSU in 2000. She is a Research Assistant Professor in the Division of Health Promotion & Sports Medicine and her clinical and research experience centers on "extreme nutrition interventions" for the treatment and prevention of disease including: ·Nutritional rehabilitation of severely malnourished children in Zambia, Africa, ·Dietary treatment of children with rare genetic disorders, ·Use of extremely high fat diets for children with severe, unresponsive seizure disorders, ·Comparing the health risks and benefits of very low- and high-carbohydrate diets for weight loss in obese adults. Dr. Stadler is the Principal Investigator of the Energy Balance Study-a study that seeks to explain why low carbohydrate diets result in reduced food intake and weight loss. She is also a Co-Investigator of the Insight Weight Loss Study and the Studies to Treat & Prevent Pediatric Type 2 Diabetes of which HEALTHY-A Middle School Program to Prevent Diabetes is a part. Interim Dietetic Internship Director Tracy Ryan-Borchers, PhD, RD, LD Dr. Tracy Ryan-Borchers, RD,LD received her PhD in Human Nutrition from Washington State University in 2004 and completed a coordinated Master's degree and dietetic internship program in 1991 at Rush University in Chicago, IL. Currently, State she is Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine and Education Coordinator in the Dietetics and Nutrition Program at Oregon Health and Science university. Prior to receiving her doctoral degree, Dr. Ryan-Borchers worked as a clinical dietitian for 10 years in a variety of acute and ambulatory care settings. Her professional goals include establishing an advanced nutrition practice to foster education and outcomes-based nutrition research, as well as continuing to explore the effects of diet in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases. Professional affiliations include the American Society for Nutritional Sciences, the American Society for Clinical Nutrition, the American Dietetic Association and the Oregon Dietetic Association. Clinical Coordinator Monica Hunsberger, PhD, MPH, RD, LD Dr. Monica Hunsberger, MPH, RD received her PhD in Public Health from Oregon State University as well as her Master’s in Public Health. She completed her RD internship at Washington State University at Spokane and her RD course work at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Currently, she is Assistant Professor in the School of Medicine and Clinical Coordinator in the Dietetics and Nutrition Program at Oregon Health Science University. Prior to joining OHSU Dr. Hunsberger worked at Portland Community College, Department of Health Education. Her professional goals include continued research on the risk factors for Gestational Diabetes and prevention of type 2 diabetes in women. Professional affiliations include the American Dietetic Association, American Public Health Association, and the Oregon Dietetic Association where she serves on the board as secretary. Melanie Gillingham, PhD, RD Dr. Melanie Gillingham is an Assistant Professor in Dietetics and Nutrition Program at Oregon Health and Science university. She received her BS in Nutrition from Texas Christian University, Ft. Worth, TX & her MS in Nutritional Sciences from U. of Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, OK & completed her PhD at U. of Wisconsin-Madison, Madison, WI Guest Faculty More than 20 professors and staff from OHSU and other institutions give lectures and workshops to dietetic interns throughout the year. These faculty members include medical doctors, health specialists and Registered Dietitians from a variety of disciplines including management, medicine/surgery, pediatrics and diabetes. Preceptors Registered Dietitians and other qualified health professionals serve as preceptors for the program. Administrative Chandra K. Nautiyal earned her BA in History from Northeastern Illinois University, and her MA in European/Islamic History from DePaul University. She works as the administrative coordinator for the department. She maintains the department website and provides technical and administrative support for the faculty and interns. She also maintains fiscal operations and helps coordinate workshops and meetings.
