Cynthia Morris, MPH, PhD, Professor and Vice-Chair of the OHSU School of Medicine Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology, received the 2007 John A. Resko Faculty Research and Mentoring Achievement Award.
During the presentation at the Hooding Ceremony, Associate Dean for Graduate Education Chris Cunningham, PhD, remarked on her distinguished career as an investigator and her significant impact on School of Medicine students at all levels, creating and running exceptional educational programs and serving as an outstanding mentor.
One of her most notable accomplishments was the establishment of the HIP (Human Investigations Program) in 2000. This program, which is funded by a K30 award to Dr. Morris, has improved the clinical research skills of more than 300 fellows and faculty from all schools of OHSU over the last 7 years. In response to the need for more comprehensive training in this area, Cindy collaborated with Tom Becker, MD, PhD, Professor and Chair of the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine in 2004 to establish the Master of Clinical Research degree, which has enrolled more than 25 students to date. Her efforts in clinical research training are also well reflected in the educational component of the Oregon Clinical and Translational Science Institute, for which she serves as the Education Director.
Dr. Morris’s outstanding contributions have already been recognized by a Faculty Excellence in Education Award from the School of Medicine and by the Medical Research Foundation of Oregon’s Mentor Award.
