On June 1, Dr. Richard J. Traystman, Associate Dean for Basic Science Research in the School of Medicine, received the 2007 Distinguished Medical Alumnus Award at the Biennial Meeting of the Johns Hopkins Medical and Surgical Association. This award recognizes Dr. Traystman’s “many years of commitment to Johns Hopkins and to the other institutions where [he has] served” and is the highest honor bestowed on “those whose outstanding professional and personal achievements exemplify the heritage of excellence of Johns Hopkins Medicine.”
In addition, the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Johns Hopkins commissioned a portrait of Dr. Traystman that was also unveiled at the June ceremony. It is now prominently displayed in The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in recognition of his dedication to scientific inquiry and medical education and his significant contributions to the Department and the School of Medicine.
In 2003, Dr. Traystman came to OHSU following a career at Johns Hopkins that spanned over 35 years. He is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Peri-Operative Medicine. Dr. Traystman is also Vice President for Research, Planning, and Development at OHSU.
