RESIDENCY PROGRAM CURRICULUM
Clinical Genetics Responsibilities: The resident is responsible for performing literature searches, dictations, counseling letters and follow-ups on assigned cases. - CDRC Genetic and Birth Defects Clinic, 9 months per year, one day per week
- CDRC Metabolic Clinic, 3 months per year, two days per week
- Kaiser Permanente Genetics Clinic, 3 months per year, two days per month
- Shriner's Hospital Neuromuscular Clinic and Skeletal Dysplasia Clinic, minimum 3 months per year, two days per month
- Perinatal Center, 3 months per year, one day per week
Laboratory Exposure: Consult Service: Conferences: - Monday Post-Genetics Clinic Conference
- Wednesday Departmental Journal Club
- Thursday Genetics Grand Rounds
- Opportunity to attend one National Genetics Meeting per year
Classes/Courses: - Essentials of Medical Genetics
- Eukaryotic Genetics
- Mechanisms of Disease
- Optional Opportunity for Clinical Research Training
Research or Special Focus Projects: - Three months per year. Option for additional research years.
Other: - The resident is expected to present Grand Rounds several times a year.
- The activities of the first and second year are essentially identical. However, the classes (first year) and lab rotations (second year) need to be done only once.
- The resident is expected to develop and execute a research project under the mentorship of departmental faculty.
