Application Deadline and Prerequisites

The application deadline is January 2, 2007 for Fall admissions. Early application is strongly recommended.  The program reserves the right to review applications received after the deadline if space is available in the specialty area. Priority is given to applications that are complete on January 2, 2007.  The program does not accept students for a Master’s degree.  It is recommended that applicants have undergraduate preparation in biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, genetics, physics and calculus.

Complete Application Contents

  • Official undergraduate transcripts
  • GRE scores (general test) OHSU Program Code = 4865 (no department code)
  • Personal statement

Application Process

Applications will be reviewed promptly when all materials have been received.  In reviewing candidates, the Admissions Committee evaluates a number of factors including undergraduate academic record, research experience and GRE scores.  Letters of reference from individuals who can address the applicant’s potential for research and graduate studies often play and important role in the admissions process.  The applicant’s personal statement is also important and care should be used in preparing the statement.  A discussion of research experience and scientific interests are recommended.

Selected applicants will be invited to Oregon Health & Science University for an interview during the months of February or March.  The interview process involves meetings with faculty and current graduate students and provides an opportunity to learn about the program, the campus and the city of Portland.  Arrangements can be made for students to meet with specific faculty during the visit.
