Visiting Osteopathic Medical Students

Visiting student applications are only accepted from students in good standing who are recieving a D.O. degree from a school which is accredited by the Education Department of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).

Applications for the 2008-2009 academic year will be accepted according to the following schedule:

  • Applications will not be accepted before April 15, 2008.
  • Students will be notified by the department after June 2, 2008 of all decisions.

Faxed applications are not accepted. Incomplete applications will not be processed. Once verified, your application will be forwarded to the appropriate clinical department for approval and scheduling.

Availability of rotations cannot be confirmed by telephone.

Below are links to an application form, 2008-2009 Clinical Clerkship Schedule, information regarding the availability of clinical electives at Oregon Health & Science University and/or affiliated hospitals, and a Health Data Form (which includes Immune Status - the Immune Status portion of the form does not need to accompany your application, but must be received prior to the start date of your elective).

OHSU requires a criminal background check on all visiting students. If your application is accepted, we will provide you with the necessary additional information. Students will not be allowed to begin a rotation until the criminal background check has been completed.

A non-refundable $75.00 application fee must be attached and will be processed by the Office of Education & Student Affairs when the rotation is assigned. If a student requests a rotation change after they have been assigned a rotation, the student will be charged an additional $75.00 fee for each change. A visiting student may petition, in writing, the Associate Dean for Medical Education if he/she has a reason for requesting more than three electives. Students requesting a fourth elective will be assessed an additional flat fee of $350.00 if petition is granted.

All applications should be received at least 30 days prior to the start of the requested rotation. Applications received less than 30 days in advance will be charged a $100.00 late application fee. No application will be considered if received less than 14 days prior to the requested start date.
