Clinical Experience: Medical Genetics

Students will participate in outpatient services for evaluation of patients with birth defects, syndrome identification, hereditary cancer syndromes and other suspected genetic disorders at the CDRC Medical Genetics and Metabolic Clinics, Center for Women’s Health, Cancer Center at the Center for Health and Healing, Perinatal Center, and the Shriner’s Hospital clinics. In addition, students will accompany the on-call geneticists for inpatient consults from the University, Doernbecher, and Veteran’s Hospitals. They will be expected to attend the regularly scheduled Departmental Clinical conference, Seminars, Journal Clubs and Grand Rounds presentations. Optional laboratory activities could include short rotations in the Biochemical, Cytogenetics, and Molecular Diagnostic laboratories to be arranged by the student and director. Arrangements for the rotation should be made 2 months in advance.
